Fredia May McCumber, 88, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away October 9, 2016.

Fredia was born in Harpersfield, New York to Charles and Mary Mattice. She has been a resident of Florida for 37 years, having moved from Schenectady, New York. Fredia worked for many years as a CNA while residing in New York. She was a Girl Scout Leader. She started the DAV (Disabled American Veterans Association in Port St. Lucie. Fredia May McCumber, 88, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away October 9, 2016.

Fredia was born in Harpersfield, New York to Charles and Mary Mattice. She has been a resident of Florida for 37 years, having moved from Schenectady, New York. Fredia worked for many years as a CNA while residing in New York. She was a Girl Scout Leader. She started the DAV (Disabled American Veterans Association in Port St. Lucie. Fredia was an avid knitter. She was known to knit afghans and donate them to various charitable organizations. Fredia even went so far as to cut out coupons and stamps off of letters to mail in to receive money that could be donated to the DAV. She also enjoyed doll collecting and dancing. Fredia and her late husband, Herbert wove a rug throughout their entire home in Upstate New York. Fredia enjoyed being a pen pal with soldiers over in Iraq during the Iraq War. Most endeared to Fredia was her family. She always looked forward to family reunions.

Fredia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years , Herbert McCumber in August of 2016; brothers, Burton, Clifford, and Elton Mattice; sisters, Alice Mattice and Mary Butler; close friends, Helen Copeland and Diane Askew; sister-in-laws, Norma Mattice, Kay Mattice, and Nancy Mattice; granddaughter, Carmen Crisp; brother-in-laws, Don Hyers, Art Lundius, and Bill Alexander.

Survivors include her sons, Dick McCumber (Maureen), of Schenectady and Herbie McCumber (Sharon Burke), of Port St. Lucie; daughter, Karen Lee Crisp, of Oklahoma ; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Johns, Leita Hyers, and Leona Alexander.
A visitation will take place on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 10:30-11am with a Funeral Service at 11 am at Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the DAV, 1150 SW California Avenue, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34953.
